Sanctions & Syria fuel Cold War 2.0

US Sanctions against Russia are fuelling a Cold War 2.0 and causing Vladimir Putin to say that retaliation would have to come “at some point”. Speaking in Finland, The Russian President said that the sanctions were “absolutely illegal from the point of view of international law”. The new sanctions are on a bill currently being looked at by US Lawmakers and if passed, it would allow the US to sanction any company involved in Russia’s energy export pipelines. This is seen as a threat to the constructions of a natural gas pipeline between Russia and Germany prompting European Union chief executive Jean-Claude Juncker to warn against passing the bill. on Wednesday, […]

Russia ramps up the heat on NATO with Nuke deployment

Russia’s deployment of nuclear-capable missiles to its Kaliningrad exclave is setting off warning bells in the Baltics and at Nato. This is not the first time that the Russians have deployed Iskander-M short-range ballistic missiles to Kaliningrad and it will not be the last. Indeed, some experts believe Russia’s long-term plan is eventually to deploy the weapons permanently to the Russian enclave, sandwiched between Poland and Lithuania. The Iskander-M system is relatively modern and was introduced into the Russian military in 2006. It is highly mobile – a pair of missiles are carried on a heavy-wheeled launcher. The missile is known as the SS-26 and code-named “Stone” by Nato. It […]

North Korea has detonated its biggest nuclear weapon to date on the communist states national day. The test was carried out at the Punggye-Ri test site in the north of the country and triggered a seismic event reaching 5.3 on the Richter scale. The test is believed to be part of the North’s program to miniaturize nuclear weapons in order to fit them onto ballistic missiles. North Korea is not currently believed to have been able to achieve that yet but Pyongyang has claimed it can produce  “at will, and as many as it wants, a variety of smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear warheads of higher strike power”. North Korea […]

West Berkshire Council has rejected Flying A Services Ltd claims that they had been using the former GAMA site at Greenham Common continuously for storage for over 10 years. The site has approval for external car storage only.
